4/2/06
- The
Orange Team won the first championship of their short existence at the Petaluma Shootout this weekend. Coming from 10 points behind in the first quarter against Strictly Hoops in the final game, the girls had to work all the way to the end, eventually winning by three after Maddy Miller banked in the game-sealing basket in the final seconds of the game.

Kady Richardson was awarded MVP honors for her key baskets and huge rebounds throughout the tournament, none bigger than the board in the final moments that led to Maddy Miller's clutch shot. AnnMarie DelBene led the team with veteran poise from the point guard position, regulating the tempo of the game and wowing the crowd with her precision passing. Taya Carter was a human dynamo this weekend, getting her hands on almost every looseball, long rebound and lazy pass in the building. Kathryn Chatman was awarded all-tournament after toughing it out through a barrage of mid-court collisions, to slice apart the defense with quick drives and slice apart the offense with quicker steals. Sarah Larner was very active in each game, getting her hands on multiple rebounds and coming up with some key tips to her teammates when the team was in dire need of a possession. Besides hitting the game-saving shot against Strictly Hoops, Maddy Miller was a force on the offensive glass throughout the tourney. Consistently coming up with offensive put-backs and hitting the freebies when she was sent to the line. It was a great start for Coach Jenny's squad, and the team is more than ready to tackle their next challenge.

Team News

11/7/06 - Silver Team practice has been cancelled for Tuesday, 11/7, at Tice.

10/30/06 - The Orinda Magic Bronze Team picked up a hard fought victory last weekend behind an offensive explosion from guard, Mallory Brown, who put on a show with pull-up 3's and unbelievable drives to the hoop.
Center, Leslie Howard, and forward, Katherine Gunn, hit key shots in the narrow 27-22 victory, and guard, Gianna Iavarone, stepped up big for the team to play point guard in the absence of flu-stricen Carly Gill.
Forward, Calila Cruickshank, anchored the team on the defensive end, constantly breaking up passes with her quick hands, and securing some clutch rebounds down the stretch.  The team also recieved solid contributions from newcomers, Nicole Bannon and Keyana Reed, who's mere presence gave the exhausted team a much-needed lift when they arrived on Sunday.

Mallory Brown (left) of the Orinda Magic Bronze Team demonstrates picture perfect shooting form as she sails a 3-pointer to the hoop at the "Who's Got Next" tournament, Sep 30-Oct.1.  Despite their depleted numbers, the girls admirably battled through the tourney,  gaining the respect of the tournament director in the process, who awarded each player with a coach's award for achievment.
The team has been adjusting to some recent additions to the roster and hitting the practice floor hard to prepare for their return to the court as an energized and reinforced version of their previous selves.  Behind the dynamic guard play of Mallory Brown and Carly Gill, the girls are looking to surprise onlookers in the weeks to come.
The team debuts their new look at the Harvest Hoops tournament in Rancho Cordova, Oct. 28-29.  Schedule to follow.
